I wasn't born to an affluent family, the land where our house was built was not actually ours. I never felt poor because I have parents who did everything for us to have a quality education. My mother cooked ricecakes ( bibingka ) in order to sustain our financial needs in partnership with my father who is a farmer and a part-time artist. I attended my high school years at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Academy where I graduated as the Class Valedictorian. This is where I honed my writing skills. I started as a staff writer and during my senior year, I became the editor-in-chief of our high school newspaper. I learned that the key to writing is to write with your mind and to edit with your heart. After high school, I enrolled at the Polytechnic University of the Philippines,Sta. Mesa, Manila. I graduated in 1994 with a Bachelor’s degree in Accountancy. I am very grateful to PUP since I studied for four years in that institution with the minimal tuition fee.
The following year I worked at Today Newspaper, an English daily newspaper circulated in the Philippines. I worked at the accounting department and was also exposed to different operational aspects and editorial facets of the company. From time to time, I contribute articles to other newspapers to satisfy my passion for writing.
After five years of working with Today Newspaper, I worked at The Manila Times. My stint there, however, was short-lived due to political turmoil during that time.
My subsequent employment was with a Maritime School in our province. I helped my relatives in putting up the school which is now a very successful venture.
Around 2004, I became the Exhibit Manager of an association that organized the very first Food Cart Trade Expo in the Philippines. Because of the popularity of food carts during that time, people happily embraced the concept. More subsequent food cart expos were organized at the World Trade Center, Manila, Philippines and the SMX Convention Center, Pasay City, Philippines.
At the height of the foodcart success, we organized various food cart companies into a cluster to participate at the very first Go Negosyo Expo at the Market Market Mall located at Taguig City. We also participated at the second Go Negosyo Expo at the Philippine Army Gym located in the same city.
My knowledge of the franchising industry led me and my wife to venture into franchise development and franchise consultancy.
